Over the past fifteen months, I have had the pleasure of meeting Harvard and Berklee graduates, Juliard school professors and world travelers, all performing in the subway just for the love of the art. Having been a musician for a brief period in my life, I am constantly fascinated by these performers earning a living in an environment that dissipates the talent within its clamor.
Out of Transit uses visual juxtaposition through photography and short films to document the subway musicians in New York City, generally referred to as buskers. This project is an attempt to contrast the transience and noise at the subway with the quiet of the studio, and in so doing to give fuller expression to the talent. It aims to create an online platform for buskers and connect the commuters with the art on a deeper level.
