What started as a single practice session in playing the musical saw turned into a busking career for Natalia Paruz. Considered as a 'celebrity in the busking scene', Natalia has been playing in the subways for the past twenty years. She has performed in various films, TV shows, music festivals and is also a former theatre actor. The Saw Lady, as she is most commonly known, can be found at Times Square, Union Square or Herald Square on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

I started playing twenty years ago when nobody even had cell phones. The subway was the only way you got information. I would be sitting at Union Square and these guys who act as messengers would go all over the city, come back and tell me ‘oh you know something happened at 104th street’. I was learning about the stuff that was happening all over the city just by people coming to me and telling these things. There’s a different kind of life in the subways.
You don’t expect it, you walk through a subway station and suddenly you are exposed to something that you will never be exposed to in any other way.
